Reasons to love football...

This post is for all readers, anyone who loves football, and also who do not like the sport itself at all. you see, football is a wonderful thing. it has to be one of the best things that has happened to mankind. it has brought joy to many of us from all walks of life. In many poor countries, the kids are happy playing football despite their lack of material wealth.

I mean, you have gotta love football, at least watching it. Some people might say that football is a game of 22 gooners chasing after a solitary ball, but take a look at this video first.

I mean, aren't these guys amongst the greatest performers on earth? The trickery they have when they are in possession of the ball, the sheer artistry they exhibit when they toy with the ball. It is such a joy to watch.

One of my favourite players is Ronaldinho. Just look at this next video.

It is an actual footage of the man himself playing futsal, a small, indoor version of the real thing when he was just a small kid. I reckon below 10 years old. Just look at what he does with the ball, the agility and awareness that he possesses, the lightning speed that few can acheive.

Well, when I was his age, all I was good at was this:

And also good at drinking all of this:

I know its a stark difference. :P haha..

looks like one of my New Year's Resolutions is not going to plan/ has failed.

2007 might be the hottest year yet.

LONDON - Deepening drought in Australia. Stronger typhoons in Asia. Floods in Latin America. British climate scientists predict that a resurgent El Nino climate trend combined with higher levels of greenhouse gases could touch off a fresh round of ecological disasters — and make 2007 the world's hottest year on record.

"Even a moderate (El Nino) warming event is enough to push the global temperatures over the top," said Phil Jones, director of the Climatic Research unit at the University of East Anglia.

The warmest year on record is 1998, when the average global temperature was 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the long-term average of 57 degrees. Though such a change appears small, incremental differences can, for example, add to the ferocity of storms by evaporating more steam off the ocean.

There is a 60 percent chance that the average global temperature for 2007 will match or break the record, Britain's Meteorological Office said Thursday. The consequences of the high temperatures could be felt worldwide.

El Nino, which is now under way in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to last until May, occurs irregularly. But when it does, winters in Southeast Asia tend to become milder, summers in Australia get drier, and Pacific storms can be more intense. The U.N.'s Food Aid Organization has warned that rising temperatures could wreak agricultural havoc.

In Australia, which is struggling through its worst drought on record, the impact on farmers could be devastating. The country has already registered its smallest wheat harvest in a decade, food prices are rising, and severe water restrictions have put thousands of farmers at risk of bankruptcy.

In other cases, El Nino's effects are more ambiguous. Rains linked to the phenomenon led to bumper crops in Argentina in 1998, but floods elsewhere in Latin America devastated subsistence farmers.

El Nino also can do some good. It tends to take the punch out of the Atlantic hurricane season by generating crosswinds that can rip the storms apart — good news for Florida's orange growers, for example.

"The short-term effects of global warming on crop production are very uneven," said Daniel Hillel, a researcher at Columbia University's Center for Climate Systems Research. "I warn against making definitive predictions regarding any one season's weather."

What is clear is that the cumulative effect of El Nino and global warming are taking the Earth's temperatures to record heights.

"El Nino is an independent variable," Jones said. "But the underlying trends in the warming of the Earth is almost certainly a result of the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere."

Another more immediate effect of the rising temperatures may be political.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard is already under fire for refusing to link his country's drought to global warming. In Britain, Friends of the Earth campaign director Mike Childs said the weather service's 2007 prediction "underlined the gap between the government's rhetoric and action."

Other environmental groups said the new report added weight to the movement to control greenhouse gases.

It came a day after the weather service reported that 2006 had been Britain's warmest year since 1659, and three months after Sir Nicholas Stern, a senior government economist, estimated that the effects of climate change could eventually cost nations 5 percent to 20 percent of global gross domestic product each year.

Figures for 2006 are not yet complete, but the weather service said temperatures were high enough to rank among the top 10 hottest years on record.

"The evidence that we're doing something very dangerous with the climate is now amassing," said Campaign against Climate Change coordinator Philip Thornhill.

"We need to put the energy and priority (into climate change) that is being put into a war effort," he said. "It's a political struggle to get action done — and these reports help."

conclusions:
1. get to see more bikinis at the Sentosa.

New Year's Resolution (s)

A list of what I wish to happen.

1. Everyone I know has good health for the year 2007. No more sick people during exam periods, Dad gets well sooner.

2. To know my friends even better, although I have known many of them for a long time. To elevate the friendship with friends made in the past or new frens in university; dearest friends from STPM, friends overseas, uber friendly Mech Eng people, lovely 5B gang, helpful seniors and everyone of all shapes and sizes that I know. If I were to make a list, this post would border on overflowing.

3. Lose some weight. 3kg would be nice. Not too much, not too little. To pack in more muscle would be wonderful too; then I can look like Rooney when I put on a replica Man United jersey, The Rock when I am in black tights. LOL. And NO I wont put on black tights.

4. Both my sisters have a good life working in KL. DJ, I hope you will enjoy your job that you currently love even more. EJ, I know EY days are stressful, but rest assured you can make it through...2 years more!!

5. To be a better person; more matured, more caring to the ones I love, more knowledgable. I know I have a lot to learn even after spending one semester in university when quite a number of things have happened.

6. Also, quite simply, to know God better, to be more grateful to Him.

7. No more major catastrophes for the New Year, no more major earthquakes, floods and devastating tornadoes. No more Hurricane Jane, Abraham, Peter, Tom, Dick and Harry. No more Johor floods, no more bombings. In short, peace for the year 2007.

8. And of course, last but not least, a higher CAP for myself and also the people I know. To have more discipline in daily life and better time management to work towards this target.

NIKE. JUST DO IT!

thoughts and a change

* When life throws you lemons at the speed of a throw of an MLB player, its up to us to catch it with a gloved hand, absorb its impact, put it into the appropriate blender and swallow it fast no matter how sour or bitter it might taste.

-When we are down in the dumps, always know that there are people in worse predicament than us. What about the skin and bones children in Africa? What about the people with deformed bodies? What about the people who cant even afford to study in university? Count our blessings. I know I did.

sheeesh. Cant take GEK2507 anymore. It cant freaking fit my timetable no matter how i freaking tweak the whole thing. Cos got 2 hours of lectures, 2 hours of labs every week. The workload is too heavy. Got CTW, got MA labs, got EG labs..I will have no time for all these assignments. So,I decided to scroll through the GEM list. . most probably I would be taking GEK1542 Forensic Science. Kinda inspired by CSI. Lets hope its as interesting as I think it should be. :)

The next post should be about my New Year's Resolution.
